Beyond the Auction: Making a Trip of It
Plenty of my Barrett-Jackson renters tack on a few extra days, and January is honestly the best month of the year to be outside in Arizona. If the WestWorld sites are full or you want to stretch your trip past auction week, there’s good camping within an easy drive — McDowell Mountain Regional Park is the closest, just northeast of Scottsdale, and Usery Mountain and Lost Dutchman State Park out toward Apache Junction are favorites for desert hiking when the temps are cool. Old Town Scottsdale is a short hop down Scottsdale Road for dinner, and the Desert Botanical Garden in Papago Park is right there in the heart of the Valley.
